ORIGINS OF THE BERMUDA 1525
Hostal - Restaurant Museum

There are diverse hypothesis about its name; given by columnists and historians. Two of the most important hypotheses are:
1-The name “The Bermuda”, comes from a graminácea plant (panicum diffusum) known by the Spaniards from the Antillas Mayores.
The priest Motolinia visited this place in the year 1544, write: ”the word Bermuda is of clear Spanish origin and has been put by local citizens that arrived with Don Diego de Alvarado the conquer, in reason that it was plentiful the plant forage there, similar to our grass called: Bermuda of the Antillas.
2- Another hypothesis tells us: that its name comes from the village that in the past owned Bartolomé Bermúdez, from where originates the name of this place and later evolved to The Bermuda.
Bartolomé Bermúdez participated in the re-founder expedition of San Salvador, commanded by Diego de Alvarado to whom the shield of Arms was assigned by King Carlos V in Valladolid, Spain on December 24, 1537, which is cultural patrimony of the families Rivera, García, Peña, Arévalo, Cañas and Huezo.

It contains part of the history of our country property as well as the genealogical tree of the family (through the years). There you find obsidian pieces, sables, exhibitions of old currencies, antique irons, sewing, stones, indigenous figures and certainly, it could not lack souvenirs and typical candies, such as “colacion” and nance candies.
