Festival of the corn



 

The festival of the corn is one of our traditions; it takes place in August 13 starting at 7:30 AM

Place: Portals of the Centennial Park

The festival of the corn is an action thanks giving for the crop and in which the blessing of the Lord is requested.

This is a festival in which the community meets to celebrate this thanks giving.

Each neighborhood of the community participate and they contribute gathering, about 20 thousand elotes with them, different plates are elaborated; such as elote atol, elote tortilla with cheese, riguas (elote cake), cooked elotes and many more delights.

This community has several activities and traditions; each neighborhood has a king and a queen that represent them. All the queens and the kings leave in a procession from of La Cruz neighborhood and get the temple of Sta. Lucia ; to listen the thanks giving solemn mass.

Then, the party begins... and to taste these dishes!

Enjoying typical dances, exhibition of crafts, villager music and a lot of fun.

 

The Antique natives use to give tribute to the God of the corn. With the conquest of the Spaniards; this indigenous act became a Christian ceremony to thank God the crops.

Particularly in The Bermuda, the gathering of the grain is offered to the saint of the hacienda: San José . Giving origin to the Festival of the Corn where the saint that dates of the year of 1700 is exposed. According to the tradition, formerly the guest met for tastes exquisite plates of this grain.

   WITH CREAM, Rice with elote
And the refreshing indigenous drinks chicha and chaparro   (fermented, alcoholic drink)
